Gardens & GroundsOffering a tranquil haven not far from the bustle of the Nation's Capital, Gunston Hall Plantation's 550 acres are mostly wooded today with only 25 acres now cultivated. George Mason's formal garden and its famous 250-year-old boxwood allee' is undergoing an investigation by our archaeology staff. Beyond the formal garden is a lower garden, deerpark, a pasture with a variety of farm animals, and into the woods a trail leads to the wonders of unbridled nature and the shores of the Potomac River. |
