June 12 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
Join us at Gunston Hall as we commemorate the anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. In writing this document, George Mason took some of the first steps in American history to make this country and the world a better place. They were not perfect steps. Mason owned slaves his entire life and the rights in the Declaration applied to a specific segment of society. Countless people have since worked to make the ideals of the Declaration a reality for everyone.
Gunston Hall welcomes you to an outdoor experience on Saturday, June 12. Bring a chair or pack a blanket and settle in for an afternoon of performances of music and stories made by people who strove to make the world a better place as well.
This program will happen rain or shine. In the event of rain, the program will move indoors.
Schedule of Performances:
|1:15 p.m.||Washington’s Camerata
This Baroque Ensemble will lead off the musical afternoon with a selection of 18th century music, rarely heard today. With wind and string instruments, the group will evoke the sounds of George Mason’s lifetime.
|2:30 p.m.||Sarah Osburn Brady as Clementina Rind
Ms. Osborn will share the story of Clementina Rind, one of the first female newspaper printers in America. She strove to make the news and information available in Williamsburg and across Virginia with her periodical, the Virginia Gazette.

This acoustic duo will bring us forward into the modern era with American folk music. Their set will include family favorites and music of the Civil Rights era.
