"Wm. H. Hoburg was in business on Clay street in 1849--'50 with Bennett & Kirby, near Pioche, Bayerque & Co.'s store. Subsequently he was State Gauger. He is the same to-day as he was twenty-four years ago. Impulsive as a boy; utterly unable to be a hypocrite; everything for truth, but nothing for policy. Wet feet on Sherman's Island are, with him, far preferable to the dry shoes of some San Francisco Honorables."1

William was born on 10 July 1818. He lived on 31 October 1849 at Ca; Society of California Pioneers. He married Sarah Ann Barnes Johnson at Baltimore, Md., on 4 October 1859. William died on 27 June 1894 at age 75. His body was interred after 27 June 1894 at Holy Cross Cemetery.
