Experience Gunston Hall
Gunston Hall has many options that will please our diverse visitors.
Join us as we commemorate the 246th anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, the document that first codified American civil liberties.
The day begins with a naturalization ceremony, welcoming a group of America’s newest citizens. Stay for lunch, bring a picnic or purchase a meal (cash only) from our local Lions Club. Round out the day with musical and spoken-word performances that celebrate the American spirit.
Master storytellers Sheila Arnold and Sarah Osburn Brady will bring to life experiences of people who found their voices during the struggles of the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 60s.
Then take part in a musical journey. We’ll start with music of the founding generation. Washington’s Camerata will perform the elegant, joyful music of George Mason’s time.
We’ll round out the day with a jazz performance, remembering the innovation, talent, cultural melding, and challenges that contributed to Black Americans’ development of this most American of musical styles. The Cristian Perez Quartet will dazzle the audience with an array of jazz compositions.
Admission is complimentary for all guests.
